The Jacmel renewable energy project in Haiti has reached a major milestone, with its electrical switchgear approved following factory acceptance testing in South Korea.
The project combines 4 MW of solar generation with 10 MWh of battery storage, integrated with the local electricity network. ESD is delivering the project as EPC contractor, with TTA providing project management and Engineer to Contract services.
MMDMM Engineering's Mansoor Shah and Ziyaad Domingo have been working alongside Albert and Jorge from the TTA team, contributing independent technical review and design assurance across:
Electrical switchgear
Protection and control panels
SCADA systems
The microgrid control and management system
Our focus goes beyond reviewing individual equipment packages: it is about checking that the different suppliers' systems will work together, with clear interfaces and coordinated protection and control.
Building on this design review work, Mansoor travelled to South Korea to witness switchgear factory acceptance testing at CheongYang GPM in Changwon.
The visit also included a pre-FAT review with Power21's engineering team in Daejeon, examining progress on the microgrid control system and discussing its operation across solar, battery storage, and diesel generation.
Together, these reviews help identify and resolve integration issues before equipment reaches site, while ensuring testing addresses the functions needed for real-world operation.
