Strengthening Power Reliability for Tonga's Outer Islands
Site assessments across Tonga's outer islands are strengthening the long term reliability of renewable energy systems for local communities.

MMDMM Engineering is supporting Tonga's MEIDECC Department of Energy through the OIREP stabilisation programme, helping strengthen the long term reliability of renewable energy systems serving outer island communities.
Led by Mansoor Shah, the work has included site assessments on:
Nomuka
'Uiha
Ha'ano
Ha'afeva
Niuatoputapu (extension planned)
These assessments examine how solar generation, battery storage, diesel generators and control systems work together under everyday operating conditions.
The assignment combines practical engineering support with a focus on the people who operate and maintain these systems. Site findings are informing recommendations for targeted repairs, maintenance and future upgrades, helping establish a clear path towards more dependable electricity supplies.
For MMDMM, successful renewable energy is about more than installing equipment. It is about supporting local teams and keeping systems working for the communities that rely on them.
